Moroccan Beni Ouarain rugs have traditionally been decorated with minimalistic patterns on a white or creamy background. Usually, the pattern is black or brown wool and resembles a geometric pattern. However, there are also other types of patterns – you can find symbols and abstract design on a Beni Ouarain rug too.
The traditional Beni Ouarain rug is characterized by the fact that the rug has fringes only at one end. In newer production, fringes may also be added to the other end too. Unique Moroccan rugs show a trace of the artisans’ handwork, and they are not always fully symmetrical in shape.
Genuine Beni Ouarain carpets are always 100% sheep wool and have not been dyed. Densely hand-knotted high-quality rugs last for decades, even from generation to generation.
